FULTON, MS – The Itawamba Community College football program opened off-season workouts as the No. 27 team in the nation according to the Dirty 30 pre-season rankings on Thursday.

The Indians, who finished 4-5 last season, are one of five teams from the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) to earn a spot in the preseason rankings.

"There are a lot of great teams in this state and across the nation and to be considered the one of the top programs is a great honor," said ICC head football coach Jon Williams. "Hopefully it will be motivation for the guys to work harder and stay hungry when it comes to living up to those expectations."

Defending National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and MACJC champion East Mississippi Community College is No. 4, Hinds Community College is No. 9, Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College is No. 15 and Holmes Community College is No. 24 with Northwest Mississippi Community College just missing a spot in the Top 30.

"Having that many teams from our league get this type of preseason recognition is a testimony to just how tough it is to win week in and week out," Williams said. "There are a lot of other teams in our league that could have just as easily made the rankings."

Mt. San Antonio Community College out of Walnut, California received the No. 1 overall preseason ranking.

The Indians finished ranked No. 22 in the 2006 version of final rankings.

ICC will open the 2012 season on the road against East Central Community College (Aug 30) and host Southwest Mississippi Community College (Sept 6) for their home opener.
