After his sophomore campaign in1987, the outfielder also received the prestigious Rawlings Big Stick award, which annually goes to the nation’s top hitter. That year, Burleson sported a .513 batting average, which is still the single season school record at Itawamba, and drove in 68 runs.
He was a first-team MACJC All-State and NJCAA Region 23 selection in both the 1986 and 1987 seasons.
