FULTON, MS - ICC will hit the road Saturday to face Coahoma in a North Division battle.
Saying the first half of the season was tough for ICC (1-4, 1-2) would be an understatement as they have faced three top ten nationally ranked teams and two very tough unranked teams. The season isn't getting any easier for the Indians as they travel to Clarksdale to take on Coahoma. Both ICC and the Tigers (0-5, 0-4) are coming off losses and looking to turn the season around. The two teams have went head-to-head every year since 1976 with the Indians holding a 35-3 series lead. However, last season's game went to double overtime with the Tigers emerging victorious, 47-41. Last year's upset win is sure to give the Tigers confidence, but also give the Indians some added motivation. In the last three meetings, the game has been decided by an average of 3.25 points and this year's 39th matchup could be the same.
Defense
The Indian defense had a tall task last week against No. 1 East Mississippi, but were able to hold the Lions to only two first half touchdowns. The rush defense held strong the entire game and held the Lions to only 94-yards on the ground. In the first half, the defense set up a scoring opportunity for ICC when Naquez Pringle (Georgetown, SC) intercepted a pass. The defense did give up 33 of the 51 points last week, but look to bounce back this week and try to spoil the Tigers Homecoming festivities by giving them a loss.
Offense
ICC's offense had progressed in scoring through the first four weeks, but couldn't get much going against top team in the nation. Running back Richard McQuarley (Meridian), who is averaging 131.1 yards a game, was able to rush for 110-yards on 27 carries against one of the nation's top defenses. The running game has been strong all season for the Indians and the passing game has showed signs of improvement. After being shutout last week, the offense has even more reason to find the end zone this week.
The Foe: Coahoma
Coahoma has had a rough start this season, but have also played some tough opponents just like the Indians. Despite their record, the Tigers will be ready for this weekend's game, as it is their Homecoming and they are looking to pull off the upset again this season. This season, the Tigers are averaging 249.5 yards per game while allowing an average of 503.8. However, their offense is leading the nation in red zone scoring percentage at 100%. Last week, the Tigers almost doubled their total points scored this season when they scored 35-points against Northeast. The Tigers battled until the end last week, but they unable to pick up the win, losing 49-35.
Saturday's game will be broadcast live from Clarksdale on WAFM 95.7 FM (Amory) and LetsGoICC.com with the Davis Ford Pregame Show starting at 12:45 p.m. followed by the First American National Bank Opening Kickoff at 1 p.m.
