TUPELO, MS -- Itawamba Community College Hall of Fame tennis coach Paul Johnson announced the signing of Tupelo High School standout Drew Ballard on Tuesday.
"It's good to get another player out of Tupelo High School," said Johnson. "It's been solid program for years and I feel like Drew will continue that line of good players that we've had in the past come out of Tupelo."
Ballard, who played singles and doubles during his career at THS, took care of business both on and off the courts earning Most Valuable Player honors as a junior while advancing to the state semifinals in singles while graduating cum laude with a 3.974 GPA and being named a Rotary Scholar.
"I'm really excited and really looking forward to playing for ICC these next two years," said Ballard. "They have the best junior college program in the state of Mississippi and have a Hall of Fame coach that can really help me take my game to a higher level."
"Drew has really been a leader for us both on and off the court," said Tupelo tennis coach Laurie Bishop, who played tennis at ICC under Coach Johnson. "He is a great student and a great athlete often leading practices and really taking on that leadership role and backing it up on court by winning wherever we put him. He always does everything he can to win."
