FULTON, MS - Zack Carpenter (Belmont, MS), a freshman on the Itawamba Community College baseball team, passed after being involved in an one-car accident on John Rankin Highway around 1:50 a.m. Saturday.
"We are deeply sadden in the news of the passing of Zack Carpenter," said ICC Athletic Director Carrie Ball-Williamson. "We appreciate all the kind words and ask that everyone continue to remember Zack's family, friends, teammates, and coaches in their prayers during this time."
ICC baseball head coach Rick Collier informed the team of Carpenter's passing early Saturday morning.
"It's heartbreaking," said an emotional Collier. "Zack was one of those guys that was well-liked by his teammates and everyone he came across on campus. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Zack's family and friends."
Itawamba County Sheriff Chris Dickinson said it appears that Carpenter lost control of his vehicle and was the only one in the car.
The accident is still under investigation.
The Itawamba Community College athletic department sends its prayers and thoughts to Carpenter's family and friends during this difficult time.
Visitation will be Sunday, December 22 starting at 6:00 p.m. at Fairview Holy Church of Christ.
The celebration of Zack's life will be Monday, December 23 at 2:00 p.m. at Fairview Holy Church of Christ. The burial service will be at Joel cemetery as Deaton Funeral Home in Belmont, MS will be in charge of the arrangements.
Zack graduated from Belmont High School and was a secondary education major at ICC.
His ICC teammates will serve as honorary pallbearers.
