The No. 21 Indians stayed alive in the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament on Thursday, beating East Mississippi 9-6 in an elimination game at East Central Community College.
"We look forward to a great tournament in Decatur," said Coach Slater Lott. "We are excited about the position we have put ourselves in and the guys are eager to put their stamp on postseason play."
The No. 13 Indians will face No. 6 Jones at 5 p.m. Sunday, May 4, in the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament at Pearl River Community College in Poplarville.
“This is an exciting day for ICC and our men’s basketball program,” ICC President Dr. Jay Allen said. “Coach Barnes is a proven leader with a strong record of developing student-athletes and building successful programs. His experience at the highest levels of college basketball makes this a tremendous hire for the College. We believe he will be a great fit for our students-athletes, our campus and our community.”
The Indians closed the regular season the way it has played the last three weeks, with another sweep and another loud offensive showing.
The Mooreville native was named MACCC Baseball Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday, after setting ICC's modern-day record for home runs in a single game against No. 4 Jones on Saturday.
