Decatur, Miss. — Itawamba Community College battled hard in the opening round of the Region 23 volleyball tournament Wednesday, but fell 3-1 to East Central Community College.
The Indians started strong, taking the first set 25-22, showing their competitive edge early. Ella Grace Phillips led Itawamba with 11 kills, while McLaine Dorr added 10. Dorr had 11 digs on the night with Fisher Enis add 10 digs.
It was a night where the breaks didn't go the Indians' way. Balls that bounced inches out for ICC often landed just inside for East Central, and shots that ricocheted off the ceiling beams seemed to favor the Warriors.
East Central earned the 3-1 victory with scores of 14-25, 14-25, 17-25 in the final three sets.
ICC finished the season 19-14 overall.
