FULTON, Miss. - The No. 12 Indians rolled past Columbia State twice with back-to-back run-rule wins, taking Game 1 by an 8-0 score and finishing the sweep with a 16-0 win in Game 2. The opener also marked a milestone moment for Coach Carson Owens, who picked up his 100th career win as a head coach.
Game 1: No. 12 Indians 8, Columbia State 0 (5 innings)
ICC broke it open late and turned a tight game into a run-rule finish in the fifth.
After grabbing a 1-0 lead in the second on a Taylar Shands sacrifice fly, the Indians stayed in control behind Lizzie Meeks and waited for the big inning to arrive. It came in the bottom of the fifth when ICC pushed six runs across to end it.
Kaylin Lynch started the surge with an RBI single. Snell followed with an RBI double. Ella Duhon then delivered the biggest swing of the inning with a two-run double, and Victoria Fields capped the rally with a two-run double of her own.
Duhon was a problem all game, going 3-for-3 with two doubles and a triple. She doubled in the fourth and fifth innings and tripled in the second. ICC finished with 11 hits in the win.
Fields and Shands each drove in two runs, and AB Marlar added a two-hit game, going 2-for-3.
Meeks handled the rest in the circle. She tossed a five-inning shutout, allowing two hits with seven strikeouts and one walk.
Game 2: No. 12 Indians 16, Columbia State 0 (5 innings)
The Indians came out swinging in the nightcap and never gave Columbia State a chance to settle in.
ICC hung nine runs in the first inning and put the game on ice almost immediately. Marlar delivered a two-run single in the opening burst, Shands drew a bases-loaded walk, an error brought home another run, Alana Dossey added an RBI single, Fields brought in a run on a fielder's choice, Gracyn Snell ripped a two-run single, and Marlar came back through with another RBI single.
That was just the start.
The Indians added five more runs in the second with RBI singles from Shands, Dossey and Campbell Guin, then kept piling on in the third when Guin brought home another run on a groundout to make it 15-0.
Montgomery dominated in the circle, throwing three scoreless no-hit innings with eight strikeouts and one walk to earn the win.
The Indians finished with 13 hits. Dossey, Marlar and Snell each had two hits, while Dossey, Marlar and Shands each drove in three runs.
