WADLEY, Ala. – The Lady Indians battled to a hard-fought 2-2 draw on the road Saturday against Southern Union State Community College.
The Lady Indians (2-1-1) grabbed momentum just before halftime when Phoebe Annals (England) broke the deadlock in the 44th minute with a composed finish. That spark carried ICC into the second half, but Southern Union found an equalizer in the 60th minute.
Rather than fold, the Lady Indians answered back quickly. Just four minutes later, Mellissa Veloso da Silva (Germany) put ICC back on top, finishing off a perfect setup from defender Mattie Ahmed (Oxford).
Southern Union managed to draw level again in the 73rd minute, but ICC's defense and goalkeeper Annabelle Holman (Amory) made sure the hosts would get no more. Holman recorded seven saves in the match, keeping the Lady Indians in control during key moments.
The Lady Indians will be back in action Tuesday when they travel to Calhoun Community College. The Guarany Bank opening kick is scheduled for 6 p.m. in Alabama.
