UTICA, Miss. - DJ Davis cashed in 20 points and the Indians got a clinic-level floor game from Damarion Winston as they went on the road and outlasted Hinds 76-71 Monday night.
The Indians (17-6, 8-1 MACCC) got four threes off the bench from Tim Holliday, and a steady hand from Damarion Winston, who stacked 11 assists as ICC kept coming up with answers. The Indians shot 50 percent, hit 7-of-18 from deep, and made Hinds pay for sloppy possessions by forcing 16 turnovers.
It was a one-possession game at the half, 35-32 ICC, then the Indians cranked it up after the break with 41 second-half points. When Hinds (12-11, 2-5 MACCC) tried to surge, ICC countered with poise, clean looks, and trips to the stripe, finishing 13-of-16 at the line.
The frontcourt did its part, too. Jason Johnson and Kyler Fox were money inside, combining to shoot 10-of-12 and score 20 points, and ICC turned hustle into extra possessions with 11 offensive boards.
Next up for the Indians is Thursday night's home game against Gulf Coast Community College (19-4, 6-2 MACCC) for Alumni Night and Lil Indians Night, with the Guaranty Bank opening tip set for 7:30 p.m.
