FULTON, Miss. – The No. 23 Indians secured a hard-fought 5-4 win over No. 24 East Central on Friday.
In doubles play, the Indians claimed two of the three courts to take an early 2-1 advantage. At No. 2, Andrea Cattaneo and Andrej Tasevski delivered a strong 8-3 win. Matthew Durrett and Jacob Christ followed with an 8-6 victory at No. 3. East Central picked up its lone doubles win at No. 1, defeating Kole Kusek and Josue Segrelles Tronchoni 8-5.
Singles action proved to be a battle throughout, with both teams trading momentum across the courts. Kusek led the way for ICC with a dominant 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 4. Durrett added another point with a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 6.
With the match hanging in the balance after East Central picked up wins at No. 1, 2 and 3, Christ delivered a clutch performance at No. 5. In a hard-fought contest, he battled to a 7-5, 6-3 victory, clinching the team win for the Indians.
No. 23 ICC will close the regular season on Tuesday, March 31, when they host No. 12 Jones at the Johnson-Partlow Tennis Courts at 2 p.m.
