FULTON, Miss. – The Indians improved to 2-0-0 on the season with a 6-2 win over Southern Union State Community College. The Indians controlled the match from start to finish, turning an early deficit into a commanding lead with a balanced attack and clinical finishing.
Southern Union struck first in the 10th minute when Jubal Lebron converted a pass from Kaleb Bass to put the visitors up 1-0. Villads Juma (Helsingor, Denmark) equalized on a penalty kick at 16:44, and the Indians added a second goal on an own goal less than 13 minutes later, giving ICC a 2-1 lead by the end of the first half.
The second half belonged to ICC. Juma scored again on a penalty kick at 55:00, followed by a Roy Luna Gonzalez (Oxford) goal off an assist from Juma just under three minutes later. Jeremiah Dudley (Oxford) added another at 75:00, and Will Barber (Maidstone, England) converted a penalty kick at 81:23 to push the lead to 6-1.
Southern Union added a late goal in the 86th minute, but Itawamba had already secured a decisive victory.
Itawamba outshot Southern Union 12-4, including 6 shots on goal. Goalkeeper Hagan Pearce (Peppertown) made one save in 60 minutes, with Blakley Timbes (Corinth) and Anthony Marquez (Columbus) combining for two more saves over the remaining 30 minutes.
The Indians will take on Oxford College of Emory University Friday in Birmingham, Ala.
