KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Indians went toe-to-toe with one of the nation's top programs on Saturday, showing grit and resilience in a 2-0 setback to No. 12 Pellissippi State.
The Indians (4-1-0) refused to back down against the nationally ranked Panthers, creating chances throughout the match and forcing the home side to earn every inch of momentum. ICC's back line held firm for much of the first half, with goalkeeper Hagan Pearce (Peppertown) anchoring the defense and recording four saves against a relentless Pellissippi attack.
The breakthrough came late in the opening frame when Pellissippi State converted in the 36th minute. Despite the deficit, ICC regrouped at halftime and came out with renewed energy. Midfielders Jay Sanders (Tupelo) and Jeremiah Dudley (Oxford) sparked several attacking opportunities, while Parks Raffety (Hernando) and Vincent Walters (Hernando) each pushed shots on frame that tested the Panther keeper.
Pearce continued to shine between the posts, keeping the Indians within striking distance. The sophomore keeper turned away multiple second-half attempts before Pellissippi State slipped in a second goal in the 53rd minute.
The Indians pressed forward in the closing stages, with Guilherme Ferri and Micah King working to break down the defense, but the Panthers' nationally ranked back line held on.
ICC will be back in action when they travel to Wallace-Hanceville on Tuesday. The Guaranty Bank opening kick is scheduled for 3 p.m. in Alabama.
