LAUREL, Miss. — Battling frigid morning temperatures and a delayed start, the Indians shook off a slow opening round to climb two spots and finish ninth overall at the Bobcat Invitational, hosted by Jones College at Laurel Country Club.
The Indians carded a 358 (+70) in Monday's opening round before bouncing back with a 325 (+30) on Day 2, posting a 683 (+100) team total to edge into the top 10 of the 12-team field.
Max King led the way for ICC, improving steadily throughout the two-day event. After opening with an 86 (+14) in frigid conditions, King found his rhythm in Round 2 with a 79 (+7), highlighted by birdies on the par-5 17th and par-5 sixth holes. His 165 (+21) finish placed him in a tie for 22nd overall.
Harvey Taylor also showed resilience for the Indians, matching King's second-round 79 (+7) after carding an 87 (+15) on Day 1. Taylor's steady play, including a birdie on the par-5 sixth, earned him a tie for 26th at 168 (+23).
Brooks McLemore posted rounds of 89 (+17) and 82 (+10) to finish tied for 38th at 171 (+27). Andrew Freeman improved from a 96 (+24) in the opening round to a 90 (+18) on Day 2. His 183 (+42) total placed him 57th in the field.
Rounding out ICC's lineup, Katch Edge delivered the comeback of the tournament. After struggling to a 99 (+27) in the first round, the freshman rebounded with a 78 (+6), the team's best single-round score, featuring a birdie on the par-4 13th and a 37 (+1) on the back nine. His 177 (+33) total vaulted him to 51st overall.
Gulf Coast rallied from third place on Day 1 to win the tournament at 634 (+58) with Harvey Underwood of East Central and Matthew Bond of Gulf Coast sharing medalist honors at 154 (+10).
