BOONEVILLE, Miss. – The Indians delivered a strong performance in its conference rivalry match with Northeast, sweeping the Tigers 3-0 Tuesday night.
The Indians (8-8, 3-4 MACCC) set the tone early in the opening set. Ella Grace Phillips and McLaine Dorr powered the attack, and Kaydee Vaughn added key points at the net. ICC put together a nine-point run and held off a late charge to take the frame 25-21.
The second set showed more of the same. Nala Salter and Michael Ann East found open space, while Vaughn and Dorr controlled the net defensively. ICC built a steady lead and never let Northeast back in, finishing 25-18.
Northeast (3-16, 1-6 MACCC) pushed back in the third, but ICC answered each run. Timely kills from Salter, East, and Ivyann Taylor gave the Indians the edge late. The Tigers closed the gap, but ICC secured the sweep with a 25-23 win.
Dorr led the attack with seven kills and four block assists. Salter and Vaughn each finished with six kills, with Vaughn hitting .444 to go along with three block assists and two aces. Phillips contributed four kills and two aces, while East added five kills. Taylor chipped in three kills and three block assists.
Fisher Enis directed the offense with 17 assists and nine digs, while Maggie Miller added eight assists.
As a team, the Indians finished with 36 kills, 31 assists, 32 digs, 12 blocks, and five aces. ICC hit .221 while holding Northeast to a .090 percentage.
The Indians return to action Wednesday when they host East Central at 6 p.m.
