FULTON, Miss. - No. 12 Indians saved its best swings for the late innings and walked off Game 1, then dug out of an early two-run hole to finish the sweep. ICC took both ends of Thursday's doubleheader against Bevill State, winning 2-1 in Game 1 and 3-2 in Game 2.
Game 1: No. 12 ICC 2, Bevill State 1
This one lived in the circle until the last pitch. Lizzie Meeks went the distance and owned the afternoon, allowing five hits and one run while striking out eight and walking one. Bevill State pitchers matched the vibe, keeping the game tight.
The Indians struck first in the second when Victoria Fields singled to bring home the game's first run. Bevill State finally broke through in the sixth on a single down the left-field line to tie it 1-1 and set up a tense seventh.
Then Fields ended it. With the game still knotted in the bottom of the seventh, Fields ripped a double to score the winning run and send the Indians into a walk-off celebration. Fields finished 2-for-4 with both RBIs, driving in the first run and the last one.
Game 2: No. 12 ICC 3, Bevill State 2
The nightcap started with a punch from Bevill State. A two-run homer in the top of the first to go up 2-0 before the Indians even settled in.
They settled in quickly. Ramsey Montgomery took over from there and gave the Indians exactly what it needed, working all seven innings and allowing just one hit and two runs while striking out eight and walking one. After the first inning, Bevill State had almost nothing to chase.
The Indians chipped away and then flipped it in the fifth. With the game tied at two in the bottom half, Maddie Porter delivered a run-scoring single to right. Moments later, AB Marlar grounded into a double play that still pushed another run across on the play to take a 3-2 lead.
Montgomery handled the seventh to lock it down and complete the sweep.
Fields again set the table at the top, going 2-for-3 in Game 2. Snell and Porter each drove in a run in the win.
