No. 12 The Indians took care of business sweeping Pellissippi State with a 9-2 win in Game 1 and a 5-0 shutout in Game 2.
FULTON, Miss. - No. 12 The Indians took care of business sweeping Pellissippi State with a 9-2 win in Game 1 and a 5-0 shutout in Game 2.
ICC got power, timely hitting and strong work in the circle across both games, then used a clean finish in the nightcap to lock down the doubleheader sweep.
Game 1: No. 12 Indians 9, Pellissippi State 2
Taylar Shands had a huge opener, hitting two home runs and driving in four runs as ICC pulled away for a 9-2 win.
Pellissippi State scored first in the second, but the Indians answered in the third when Gracyn Snell doubled down the left field line to tie the game at 1-1.
Shands gave ICC the lead in the fourth with a solo home run to left, putting the Indians in front 2-1.
Pellissippi State tied the game at two in the top of the fifth, but the Indians took control for good in the bottom half with a six-run inning. Kaylin Lynch tripled in a run, AB Marlar singled in a run, Macie Starling added an RBI single and Shands capped the inning with a three-run home run to center.
Ella Lilly got the win after allowing two runs on five hits over 5.1 innings with four strikeouts and two walks. Ramsey Montgomery closed it out with 1.2 innings of shutout relief, allowing no hits while striking out four and walking none.
Marlar and Shands each collected two hits in the win.
Game 2: No. 12 Indians 5, Pellissippi State 0
ICC completed the sweep with a shutout in the nightcap, beating Pellissippi State 5-0 behind a strong outing from Alanee Wheeler.
The Indians broke through in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Snell to take a 1-0 lead.
ICC added on in the sixth to create separation. Ann Thomas Luke drove in a pair of runs on a two-out single to center and Skylar Partlow ripped a line drive to center to plate Zoe Goodman and Taylar Shands.
Partlow finished 3-for-4 from the leadoff spot, while Lynch added two hits in three at-bats. Luke and Partlow each drove in two runs for the Indians.
Wheeler picked up the win after tossing a scoreless complete game, giving up three hits while striking out seven and walking one.
