I'Xana Winters poured in 20 points, Briyana Turner owned the boards and ICC (11-5, 2-0 MACCC) beat the Lady Tigers, 52-41, to stay perfect in conference play.
It was the kind of win that the lead never felt comfortable for the Lady Indians. Northeast kept hanging around and kept looking for a run, but the Lady Indians kept answering with defense, rebounds and just enough shot making to keep the Lady Tigers chasing.
When Northeast made a move and trimmed a 10-point lead down to one late in the third quarter, the Lady Indians did not blink. Turner scored again to retake the lead, then Winters came up with the defensive rebound at the horn to carry a 36-35 lead into the fourth.
Northeast grabbed the lead early in the fourth, 37-36, and the response was immediate.
Winters drilled a three with 8:36 left to swing the lead back to ICC, and the Lady Indians never let it go again. Tootie Lockett followed with a jumper, Turner finished another tough layup, then ICC started turning defense into separation. Starr Amos erased a shot at the rim, Lockett and Turner cleaned up rebounds and the Lady Tigers kept coming up empty on possessions they had to have.
With the game tightening in the final minutes, Lockett hit a jumper with 1:45 left to make it 46-40, Turner jumped a passing lane for a steal moments later, and Kelsi Dilworth knocked down a 3 with 35 seconds left to put it out of reach. Winters then iced it at the line in the final seconds as the Lady Indians finished the job.
Turner posted 11 points and 11 rebounds with seven offensive boards. Lockett added 10 points with three assists and two steals.
The Lady Tigers fell to 6-11 overall and 0-3 in the conference.
The Lady Indians will take on Northwest (11-5, 2-0) in a key MACCC game Tuesday night in Senatobia. The Lady Rangers picked up a 72-54 win at Holmes (9-4, 1-1) on Thursday.
