PERKINSTON, Miss. – The No. 19 Indians dropped an 8-1 match at No. 12 Gulf Coast on Friday.
In doubles play, Gulf Coast claimed all three courts to take an early 3-0 advantage. At No. 1, Andrea Cattaneo and Josue Segrelles Tronchoni fell, 8-2. Andrej Tasevski and Kole Kusek were defeated 8-1 at No. 2. The No. 3 duo of Matthew Durrett and Jacob Christ were forced to retire, giving Gulf Coast the doubles sweep.
In singles action, Cattaneo dropped a 6-0, 6-3 decision at No. 1, while Tasevski fell 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3. Kusek was defeated 6-3, 6-3 at No. 4 and Christ dropped a 6-1, 6-1 match at No. 5.
The lone point for the Indians came at No. 2, where Segrelles Tronchoni responded after splitting the first two sets, 4-6, 6-4, before Gulf Coast retired in the third set, awarding the match to Itawamba. Gulf Coast also picked up a win by default at No. 6.
