Lockett Drops 24 as Lady Indians Knock Off Gulf Coast

FULTON, Miss. - The Lady Bulldogs walked in unbeaten in league play. The Lady Indians made sure they walked out with a loss.
ICC (16-7, 7-2) set the tone early and held off every push late to beat Gulf Coast (14-4, 8-1) 65-57 on Thursday.
The first quarter was the separator. The Lady Indians came out sharp, won the tempo, and put the Lady Bulldogs in a hole immediately with a 22-13 edge. Tootie Lockett was already comfortable, getting to her spots and scoring 10 points in the quarter.
The second quarter turned into a grind and ICC only scored seven points, but the damage was already done. Even with Gulf Coast winning the period 10-7, the Lady Indians still hit halftime up 29-23.
The hinge was the third. The Lady Indians matched the Lady Bulldogs' physicality, won the quarter 22-19, and pushed the lead back out to 51-42 heading to the fourth.
Gulf Coast had one more run in it, but it never got over the top. ICC stayed composed, finished possessions, and turned stops into just enough offense to keep the Lady Bulldogs from making the rally.
Lockett led the way with 24 points and four assists. Briyana Turner delivered a massive lift off the bench with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Up next, the Lady Indians will face Southwest Mississippi Community College in a make-up game Friday at 12:30 p.m.
