SCOOBA, Miss. - The Lady Indians did not need a hot shooting night to take control.
They won with defense and rebounding, grinding down East Mississippi for a 56-42 win after jumping out early and staying in front the whole way.
The Lady Indians set the tone in the first quarter with an 18-8 start and never gave the Lady Lions a real opening. East Mississippi never reached 12 points in any quarter after that first period.
That was the story. The Lady Indians made life hard on every possession.
ICC was not lights out offensively at 27.8 percent from the field and 20.0 percent from deep, but the Lady Indians owned the glass, finished plus-10 in rebounds (53-43) and kept control of the game with just nine turnovers.
Tootie Lockett and Starr Amos paced ICC with 15 points each, and both delivered double-doubles.
Lockett added 10 rebounds. Amos came off the bench and grabbed 12 rebounds and added two blocks.
Carlie Brock added 11 points with six rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block.
The Lady Indians led 31-20 at halftime, took a 41-31 lead into the fourth and closed it out by winning the final quarter 15-11.
Up next, ICC will host Holmes on Thursday for Sophomore Night with a shot at the MACCC Championship in the balance.
