SENATOBIA, Miss. - ICC and Northwest turned a non-conference game into a wild one Wednesday, and the Rangers walked it off in the final swing, topping the Indians 14-12.
The Indans looked in full control early with a huge opening inning.
ICC broke it open in the top of the first with a nine-run burst. Madden Butler got the scoring started with an RBI single. Houston Green added a sacrifice fly. Tre Gunn followed with a two-run single. An error brought home another run, Jack Cummings added an RBI single and Butler capped the inning with a three-run homer to left.
The Indians added to the lead in the third. Butler doubled to left to score a run, then Reid Kent singled to center to push the advantage to 11-2.
Northwest started chipping away and scored two runs in the bottom of the third to get on the board, then kept the pressure on as the game moved into the late innings.
The Rangers completed the comeback in the bottom of the seventh, scoring six runs on four hits. The final moment came on a grand slam to left field on the last play of the game to give Northwest a 14-12 win.
The Indians finished with 11 hits in the loss. Butler drove in five runs and went 3-for-5 from the leadoff spot. Cummings, Kent and Caviness each had multiple hits for the Indians.
