The Indians stormed back to beat No. 14 Jones College 14-7 in a non-conference shootout on Tuesday, flipping the game with a seven-run fifth and putting it away with a five-run seventh.
ELLISVILLE, Miss. — ICC walked into Bobcat country and turned a four-run hole into a statement.
The Indians stormed back to beat No. 14 Jones College 14-7 in a non-conference shootout on Tuesday, flipping the game with a seven-run fifth and putting it away with a five-run seventh.
ICC struck first in the opening inning when Madden Butler singled to drive in a run, but the Bobcats seized control in the bottom of the third, erupting for five runs on four hits to take a 5-1 lead.
That advantage did not last long. Cannon Graham sparked the comeback in the fourth with a solo shot to right field, then ICC hit full throttle in the fifth.
The Indians tied it on chaos and pressure. Reid Kent put a ball in play and reached on an error as Brody Thompson and Tyler Pickens scored. With the bases loaded, Houston Green worked a walk to bring Kent home and knot the game at 5-5.
From there, it was the Indians delivering the big swings. Will Caviness lined a single to left that scored Graham and Butler. Jack Cummings followed with a ground ball that turned into another Jones error, allowing Caviness and Green to score and pushing ICC in front 9-5 after a seven-run frame.
ICC was not finished. The Indians poured on five more in the seventh to break it open. Green scored on a sacrifice bunt by Caviness. Pickens singled to plate Tre Gunn. Then Thompson unloaded a three-run home run to center to make it 14-5 and put the comeback on ice.
Riley Caygle earned the win in relief for ICC, allowing one hit and no runs over 2.1 innings while striking out one and walking two.
