CLARKSDALE, Miss. – The Lady Indians set the tone early and never let it go Monday, rolling past Coahoma 62-42 behind a balanced scoring effort and a steady defensive grip from the opening quarter to the final horn.
ICC controlled the game from the first stretch, jumping out 16-6 after one and building that margin with consistent pressure on both ends. The Lady Indians matched that 16-point output in each of the first three quarters to carry a 48-33 lead into the fourth, then finished the job by holding Coahoma to nine points in the final period.
I'Xana Winters led the way with 19 points, knocking down four threes. Tootie Lockett added 14 points and six rebounds.
The difference showed up most on the glass and in the effort plays. ICC won the rebounding battle 39-29 and turned defense into offense with 12 steals and five blocks, repeatedly erasing Coahoma possessions and forcing tough, late-clock looks. Starr Amos was everywhere in the middle, finishing with 15 rebounds to go with four points, three steals, and two blocks.
The Lady Indians will host rival Northeast on Thursday.
