Skylar Partlow saved her loudest swing for last, blasting a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the fifth to cap a 10-run avalanche and power No. 12 ICC to a 14-4 run-rule win over Coastal Alabama-South in the opener of the Visit Panama City Beach JUCO Softball Showdown.
PENSACOLA BEACH, Fla. – Skylar Partlow saved her loudest swing for last, blasting a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the fifth to cap a 10-run avalanche and power No. 12 ICC to a 14-4 run-rule win over Coastal Alabama-South in the opener of the Visit Panama City Beach JUCO Softball Showdown.
It did not look like that kind of day early. The Coyotes (2-1) jumped out early in the top of the second to grab a 4-0 lead, then watched the Indians (3-0) flip the entire game.
ICC answered with 10 runs on 10 hits in the bottom of the second to sprint in front 10-4. AB Marlar lit the fuse with a leadoff solo homer. Taylar Shands followed with a three-run shot, then Victoria Fields delivered another three-run homer as the inning kept rolling. Gracyn Snell pushed home the ninth run with a sacrifice fly, and Shands tacked on the final run of the frame with an RBI double to finish the blitz.
Coastal Alabama-South scratched back with two runs in the third to trim it to 10-6, but the Indians had another gear late. Partlow ended it in the bottom of the fifth, launching the grand slam that made it 14-4 and triggered the run rule. Partlow drove in four runs on two hits.
Lizzie Meeks (2-0) earned the win, working five innings with seven strikeouts while allowing six runs, two earned, on eight hits and a walk.
ICC finished with 12 hits. Marlar, Partlow and Shands had two apiece, with three home runs in the second inning setting the tone and Partlow's slam providing the exclamation point.
