Diamondhead, Miss. – The men's golf team turned in its best finish of the season at the Pearl River Wildcat Invitational, placing fifth in a deep field with a two round team score of +54.
The Indians opened at +33 in Round 1, then came back sharper Saturday and cut it to +21 in Round 2. That 12 shot move in the right direction is what pushed ICC into the top five and kept them in front of Hinds (+55) and Northwest Mississippi (+62) down the stretch.
Max King set the tone for the bounce-back.
After a 79 in the opener, he fired a 73 in Round 2 to finish at 152 (+8), the low total for the Indians. Harvey Taylor and Malone Richardson landed right behind him, each posting 155 (+11) for the tournament. Taylor went 77 then 78, Richardson went 78 then 77. Katch Edge rounded out the scoring four with 168 (+24), improving from 87 to 81 in the second round. Brooks McLemore carded 91 then 90 for 181 (+37).
Team race wise, Gulf Coast won the event at +13, Meridian was second at +37 and East Central took third at +40. ICC's fifth-place finish at +54 put the Indians in the mix with the next tier, just one shot behind Jones (+47).
