MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. - The No. 12 Indians swept Northwest-Shoals in a season-opening doubleheader Tuesday, winning 5-0 in Game 1 and 10-4 in Game 2, behind two complete-game performances in the circle and two swings that turned each game on its head.
Game 1: Indians 5, Northwest-Shoals 0
Ramsey Montgomery controlled the opener from the first pitch, throwing a complete-game shutout with seven strikeouts. The only thing missing early was a lead, and ICC fixed that in a hurry in the top of the fourth.
Maddie Porter broke the scoreless tie with a home run to left field, and the inning kept rolling. Skylar Partlow scored on Kaylin Lynch's sacrifice fly, then Ella Duhon came home on an error to make it 3-0. Porter added her second solo home run of the game in the fifth, and the Indians tacked on one more in the sixth when Duhon doubled and later scored on Taylar Shands' groundout.
Porter went 3-for-3 with a walk and Duhon finished 2-for-3 with two doubles as the Indians made the most of six hits and a steady pace all afternoon.
Game 2: Indians 10, Northwest-Shoals 4
Game 2 had more traffic early, and the Indians answered it with the inning that decided the day. ICC took a 1-0 lead in the first when Partlow reached on an error and later scored on another miscue, but Northwest-Shoals answered with two runs in the bottom half to go in front 2-1.
Then came the third, and it flipped everything. With the bases loaded, Duhon drew a walk to force in Alana Dossey and Shands followed with the biggest swing of the doubleheader, a grand slam to center field to push the Indians in front for good.
ICC kept adding to it. Duhon hit a two-run homer in the fourth and AB Marlar sent a two-run shot over center field in the sixth to finish the scoring. Marlar had two of the Indians' seven hits. Lizzie Meeks went the distance in the circle, striking out eight while allowing four runs, two earned, on four hits.
Next up, the Indians head to the 2026 Visit Panama City Beach JUCO Softball Showdown this weekend. ICC faces Coastal Alabama-South and Pensacola State on Friday, then Andrew College and No. 3 St. John's River State College on Saturday.
