FULTON, MS – Freshman pitcher John Morgan Payne (Belmont) was named Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) Baseball Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday.
Payne went the distance against Meridian Community College Friday and struck out 10 while only allowing only five hits.
In his only appearance last week, Payne picked up the win to improve to 3-3 this season in the Indians 10-3 game two victory over Meridian.
The right hander allowed three runs and only walked three against the Eagles, who were number one in the conference Friday.
In 30.2 innings this season, Payne has a team high 25 strikeouts and a team best .2.93 ERA.
Payne will now be nominated for national pitcher of the week honors that will be announced later this week.
