FULTON, MS – Head football coach Jon Williams introduced Dennis Smith as the Indians' new Wide Receivers Coach and Special Teams Coordinator.
"We are excited about adding Dennis to our coaching staff," said Williams. "He has an impressive background as a coach and vast experience with helping build and take football programs to the next level of success. Hopefully that will continue for our program here at ICC."
Smith spent the past six-years at Florida International University where he helped guide the Panthers to the 2010 Conference USA (CUSA) championship along with appearances in the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl (2010) and Beef 'O' Brady's Bowl (2011).
"I had the opportunity to help build a Division I program from the ground up," Smith said. "We went from 1-11 to winning a conference championship, winning consecutive bowl games and putting numerous players in the NFL and that experience really helped me grow as a coach."
He served as Tight Ends Coach and Recruiting Coordinator (12), Director of Player Personnel (10-11), Offensive Graduate Assistant (08-10) and Assistant Football Operations Director (07) while at FIU.
"I had the chance to see the process take shape over the course of a six year period," Smith commented about his time in Florida. "I'm hoping to be able to come in and help continue build the program here at ICC."
Before helping set the ground work for the Florida International football program, the New Orleans native spent six years at the University of Miami where he was a member of the 2001 National Championship staff and three Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) championship (01, 02, 03) teams.
The No. 19 Indians will open the 2013 season at Eaton Field on August 29 against East Central Community College after finishing 6-3 last season.
