FULTON, MS – After their historic 27-21 victory over Northwest Mississippi Community College, the Itawamba Community College Indians have moved up to No. 4 in the latest National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) football poll.
"I'm proud for the guys for being honored with this ranking," said ICC head coach Jon Williams. "It's a testimony of all the hard work that has not only gone into this season, but also previous seasons that helped lay the ground work for us to be a successful football program."
The Indians, who were previously ranked No. 7 by the NJCAA, moved to 5-0 for the first time in school history with their win on Saturday.
ICC (5-0, 3-0 MACJC North) is among three MACJC schools in the Top 5, with East Mississippi Community College (5-0, 2-0 MACJC North) moving up a spot to No. 2 and Jones County Junior College (5-0, 3-0 MACJC South) jumping from 9th to 3rd after their 50-47 win over Copiah-Lincoln Community College (4-1, 2-1 MACJC South). The defending MACJC champions Copiah-Lincoln fell to 9th and preseason No. 1 Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College (4-1, 1-1 MACJC South) stayed at the No. 10 spot.
"Every coach in this league will tell you how tough it is week in and week out, but with three of the top-five and five of the top-ten teams in the nation speaks volumes for what it's like to play in the MACJC," Williams commented.
The Indians will be step out of division for a Top 10 clash as they travel to Copiah-Lincoln on Thursday.
"We will have to be at our best come Thursday night," said Williams. "Co-Lin is an extremely good football team and they'll be hungry for a win after coming off a tough, hard-fought loss like they had on Saturday."
Kickoff is slated for 7:00 p.m. and the game can be heard on WAFM 95.7 FM (Amory) and watched live from Wesson on LetsGoICC.com starting at 6:40 with the Davis Ford Pre-Game show.
