Gray picks up MACCC Defensive Player of the Week football honors
Orel Gray (Jacksonville, Fla.) has earned Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference (MACCC) Defensive Player of the Week honors after his performance in the Indians’ 17-0 shutout victory over rival Northeast.
FULTON, Miss. – Itawamba Community College's Orel Gray (Jacksonville, Fla.) has earned Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference (MACCC) Defensive Player of the Week honors after his performance in the Indians' 17-0 shutout victory over rival Northeast, according to a conference announcement on Tuesday.
The freshman linebacker played a key role in ICC's win against the Tigers, recording nine total tackles (five solo, four assists) along with 5.5 tackles for a loss of 24 yards and three sacks for a loss of 14. He currently leads the Indians (6-2, 4-1 MACCC North) with 10 sacks on the season, which is first in the MACCC and tied for the top spot in the NJCAA.
Gray is the third ICC player to be named MACCC Defensive Player of the Week this season. Jaiyden Thompson (Okolona) earned the honor in week five, and Dylan Rowsey (Rienzi) in week six.
Gray and his teammates will close out the regular season Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. when they host No. 4 Northwest with playoff implications on the line. The pregame show will begin at 6:30 p.m. on LetsGoICCTV.com/red and SuperTalk Tupelo 101.9 FM.
