Indians come up short in North Division battle with Northwest

Fulton, MS – Sophomore Deontaye Ewing (Tupelo) scored a team-high 23 points in the Itawamba Community College Indians' 92-88 North Division loss to Northwest Mississippi Community College on Saturday.
"We just couldn't find a way to win it down the stretch," said first-year ICC head coach Grant Pate. "Northwest is a really good team and they took care of business forcing us into bad shots and making their free throws."
Northwest (9-3, 2-1 MACJC North) made 26 of 39 free throw attempts (67%) while the Indians (8-7, 1-3 MACJC North) managed 16 trips to the charity stripe, connecting on 12 attempts (59%).
"We've got to learn to stay aggressive on defense, but not give teams so many opportunities from the line," Pate commented. "Northwest is a physical team and are aggressive on the boards, but I felt like the guys matched their intensity, which was big for us as a team especially after coming off a tough loss to Holmes."
Sophomore Quintin Lee (Ripley, TN) scored 18 while Chris Harris (Starkville) had 12 and fellow freshman Tory Rice (Starkville) added 11 in the loss.
