FULTON, MS – Mother Nature tried her best, but she couldn't dampen the spirits of the first-ever ICC Alumni Game this past Saturday in Fulton.
"Despite all the rain and last-second rescheduling I feel like this was a huge success," said ICC soccer coach Mike Sullivan. "This will definitely become an annual event. We had such a great turnout that we are looking at splitting the game into two games so more of the alumni can play longer."
The Indians took an early 1-0 lead on a goal freshman Nick May (Caledonia) and later took a 2-0 advantage at the break when sophomore forward Ashley Page (Chelsea, AL) scored on a goal from six yards out.
The defense Andrew Ginn (Amory), Taylor Smith (Corinth) and Taylor Nabors (Tupelo) made it tough going for the Alumni in the second half before taking a 3-0 lead on a goal from sophomore Moises Solis (New Albany).
The Alumni got on the board in the 85th minute when Omar Juarez (08-09, Amory) won a penalty and assistant coach Cody Carson (06-07, Amory) stepped up to slot home the goal to make the final score 3-1 in favor of the Indians.
"I've had over 200 guys play for me here at ICC and even through some of our tougher years I wouldn't trade how things went for anything," Sullivan said. "Today made me realize just how lucky I've been to coach all these players. I look forward to seeing many of them again next year."
The women's alumni game was postponed due to early weather concerns and will be played Saturday at 1:30 p.m. during the program's annual Meet the Indians festivities, which starts with a lunch at noon and will follow with player introductions, the women's alumni game and men's scrimmage.
