FULTON, MS – The ICC men's soccer team was recently recognized by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) as the Academic Team of the Year.
The Indians combined for a 3.32 GPA to lead all men's soccer programs and earned the academic national title for the second-straight season. The award was originally given to Sussex County Community College (NJ), but later reported to the NJCAA office that players were accidentally omitted from their team total GPA.
"We take a lot of pride in our performance in the classroom," said Coach Mike Sullivan. "It's great to see all their hard work and success in the classroom being recognized with this award and to win it back-to-back years is an even bigger accomplishment for our sophomores."
Teams with the top grade point average in its respective sport throughout the country earn the honor of being named NJCAA Academic Team of the Year. Only teams with a minimum of a 3.0 GPA are considered for the award.
Eight sophomores earn Mississippi Association of Community and Junior College (MACJC) Academic All-State while the team was named MACJC Academic Team of the Year for men's soccer honors while seven took home NJCAA academic honors.
Piercen Burchfield (Pontotoc) was named to the Capital One Academic All-District team as part of the CoSIDA Academic All-America Teams program.
