Indians open season with dominant win over East Central
The Itawamba Community College men’s soccer program ushered in its 2022 season under new Head Coach Caryl Vogel Tuesday in dominating fashion, defeating East Central 7-0.

Decatur, Miss. – The Itawamba Community College men's soccer program ushered in its 2022 season under new Head Coach Caryl Vogel Tuesday in dominating fashion, defeating East Central 7-0.
Scoring came early and often as the Indians (1-0) netted five of their seven goals in the first half. Sophomore midfielder JB Purvis (Byhalia) led the offensive charge for the Indians, scoring three goals and adding an assist.
The Indians' first goal of the season came off the foot of freshman striker Maryo Elsheikh (Barlett, Tenn.), and Purvis quickly followed with his first goal of the season to extend the lead to 2-0 in the first six minutes of the contest.
By halftime, the Indians extended their lead to 5-0 and added two second half goals to complete the win.
Freshmen Daven Sanders (Tupelo), Aiden Belk (Oxford) and Reed Conerly (Tupelo) scored their first collegiate goals in the big win.
Owen Anforth (Burnley, England) picked up two assists while Gage Lashlee and Ethan Scott (both of Olive Branch), Ian Thomas (Southaven) and Conerly added one assist each.
Next up for the Indians is a tough weekend slate against No. 5 Pearl River Community College and No. 20 Mineral Area College (Missouri). The Indians will face Pearl River at 4 p.m. on Friday and Mineral Area at 2 p.m. Sunday. Both games will be played at the ICC Soccer Complex on the Fulton Campus.
