SENATOBIA, MS – The Itawamba Community College Lady Indians and Northwest Mississippi Community College Lady Rangers battled for MACJC North Division supremacy on Wednesday.
Timely hitting and an outstanding pitching performance propelled the Lady Indians to a 4-1 game one victory, handing the Lady Rangers their first division loss and ending their nine game win streak.
Sophomore pitcher Hannah Johnson (Branson, MO) allowed only six hits and one run in her third complete game of the season and retired nine straight in the first three innings.
The Lady Indians (17-6, 9-1 MACJC North) gave Johnson run support in the third as Taylor Thornton (Carollton) score on a wild pitch and Katrina Wilson (Oxford) drove in two runs in the fourth on a double that one hopped to the left field fence.
Arriann Henry (Ecru) added an insurance run in the fifth with her second hit of the game that scored Haley Moore (Booneville) who went 2-for-4.
The Lady Rangers were able to push across one run in the late innings, but the Lady Indians held on to pick up the win and jump into a first place tie in division.
Johnson improves to 10-1 this season and has a 2.21 ERA.
