POPLARVILLE, MS – The Itawamba Community College Lady Indians dropped a heart breaker to Pearl River Community College in the finale of the Pearl River Tournament Saturday.
The Lady Indians (6-3) jumped out to an early lead, but three errors late in the contest allowed Pearl River to win in walk off fashion on an error in the infield, 5-4.
Big days at the plate by Haley Moore (Booneville) and Cara Hopper (Caledonia) helped the Lady Indians earn a 3-0 lead early. Moore provided a spark for the offense going 3-for-4 with two doubles and Hopper finished 2-for-3. The duo accounted for all four of the Lady Indians runs.
Pearl River tied the game in the sixth and had the go ahead run in scoring position in the final frame and an error on a routine ground ball allowed the runner to score and give them the 5-4 walk off win.
The Lady Indians are set to return to regular doubleheader action, but with rain in the forecast, the weather could play a factor in scheduling.
