Softball takes #10 LSU-Eunice to the limits, falls 6-5

Poplarville, MS - Going against the No. 10 team in the nation didn't faze the ICC softball team. The Indians had the tying run on base before the LSU-Eunice Bengals escaped with a 6-5 victory in the Pearl River Tournament on Saturday.
ICC (1-1) pushed across a run in the bottom of the first inning when Taylor Blevins (Columbus) scored on a single by Mamie Hollenhead (Mathiston). The Bengals (7-2) answered with a run in the top of the second, but the Indians bats answered with a trio of runs in the bottom half of the inning.
Maura Jane Autry (Holly Springs) sparked a two-out rally with a single and advanced to third on a single by Lane Kennedy (Smithville). Both scored on a double down the left field line by Alex Brown (Pontotoc). Brown scored on a double by Kaitlin Bradley (Columbus) before Eunice get out of the inning.
The Bengals got a pair of solo home runs in the top of the fourth and another in the fifth to cut the Indians led to 5-4.
Eunice manufactured two runs in the top of the seventh to take its first lead of the game.
Hollenhead reached on an error to put the tying run on in the bottom half of the inning but the Bengals were able to get out of the inning with no damage done to escape with victory.
Kennedy and Brown went 2-for-4 on the afternoon.
ICC will travel to Co-Lin for a non-division doubleheader starting at 1:00 in Wesson Sunday.
