BOAZ, AL – ICC crossed the state line for the its first away game and passed their first road test of the season with a 78-59 win over Snead State on Monday.
The Lady Indians set the tone early jumping out to a 6-0 lead thanks to a hot start by Kaelin Kneeland (Olive Branch).
"We knew with it being our first road game of the season we would need someone to come out strong to start the game," said Coach Robin Porter, who took over head coaching duties with Coach Nanci Gray out due to illness. "We challenged our sophomores to get us the start we needed and KK stepped up in a big way."
Kneeland scored six of the Lady Indians first 12 points while collecting two offensive rebounds and dishing out one assists in the first three minutes of the game to give ICC a 12-6 lead.
ICC closed the first half on a 29-19 run to take a 41-25 lead into the break.
The Lady Indians forced the Lady Parsons into five turnovers to start the second half to take a 48-27 lead at the 16:27 mark before pulling away for the 21-point road victory.
"I was proud of the way the girls played tonight," said Porter. "Your first road game of the season is always a tough one, but the girls came out focused and took care of business."
Jeronia Allen (Minden, LA) led the Lady Indians with 17 points and 10 rebounds while Jayla Chills (Ripley) added 16 points with Kneeland added 15 points and 11 rebounds.
"We are going to need a lot out of our sophomores at the start of the season to help the freshmen get use to this level of play," said Porter. "We going to need them to grow up in a hurry with division play starting next month."
Ricki Hooker (Olive Branch) had a career-high 8 steals and scored 9 points in the win.
"I was proud of the effort Ricki played with defensively," Porter commented. "She has been solid early on this season running the point and being a leader on the defensive side of the floor."
Coach Porter improved to 3-1 as head coach of the Lady Indians.
