Lady Indians win overtime thriller over Northeast

Lady Indians win overtime thriller over Northeast

BOONEVILLE – Jeronia Allen (Minden, LA) drilled a game winning 3-pointer at the buzzer to help the Lady Indians beat the rival Lady Tigers 97-96 in overtime Thursday night for their eighth straight victory.
The Lady Indians (13-2, 4-0) trailed by as much as 13-points in the first half, but cut into the Lady Tigers lead to only trail by seven, 48-41, at halftime. In the second half, the gap was closed even more on a charge led by a trio of Lady Indians. Jayla Chills (Ripley), Kaelin Kneeland (Olive Branch) and Alontra Tucker (Lamar) propelled the Lady Indians to tie the game at 86-86 with 14.8 seconds remaining in regulation.
After two missed Lady Tiger free throws, the game headed into overtime with momentum on the Lady Indians side. In the extra five minute frame, the Lady Indians picked up the lead and were up 94-93 with 9.5 left on the clock. The Lady Tigers drove down the court and Jasmine Allen hit a 3-pointer to give the Lady Tigers a 96-94 lead with under five ticks remaining.
Allen rolled the ball to half court where Ricki Hooker (Olive Branch) scooped it up and found Allen racing to the corner who drained the 3-pointer at the buzzer to give the Lady Indians the 97-96 win. The Lady Indians now hold a nine game winning streak over the rival Lady Tigers.

Chills led the Lady Indians with 33-points to tie her career high, followed by Kneeland with a career high 22-points. Kneeland also picked up her tenth double-double of the season by grabbing 13-rebounds. Tucker rounded out the scoring with a career high 17-points.
The Lady Indians remain unbeaten in North Division play, but have another tough road test as they travel to Scooba Tuesday for a battle with the Lady Lions. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. The game will be live streamed on LetsGoICC.com with the Davis Ford Pregame show beginning at 5:10 p.m.
