FULTON, Miss – The streak continues for the Itawamba Community College Lady Indians as they won their tenth consecutive game, remaining unbeaten in North Division play with a 76-64 victory over Mississippi Delta Thursday night at the Davis Event Center.
Sophomore guard Jayla Chills (Ripley), who got off to a hot start with 12 points, three assists and three rebounds in the first half, finished with a team-high 19. Freshman guard Erika Toney (Horn Lake) added 10 points in the opening frame as the duo led the charge during a 12-0 run.
The Lady Indians (15-2, 6-0 MACJC North Division) led by as much as 15 points in the first half, but the Lady Trojans cut the lead to nine, 41-32, at halftime.
In the second half, the Lady Indians quickly extended their lead to 20 points. However, the Lady Trojans rallied to pull within nine, but that is as close as they would get as a Lanikki McMillian (Pontotoc) transition basket set up by a Ricki Hooker (Olive Branch) steal propelled the Lady Indians to the 12-point victory.
Toney scored 13 points, followed by McMillian with a season-high 12 and a team-high eight rebounds. Kaelin Kneeland (Olive Branch) rounded out the scoring with 10.
The Lady Indians will try to improve their win streak on the road next week when they travel to Clarksdale for a North Division road test against Coahoma. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
