Lady Indians defeat Wallace-Selma, 80-69

SELMA, AL - For the fourth straight year, Coach Nanci Gray and the back-to-back defending NJCAA Region 23 champions ICC Lady Indians opened the season with a win.

Sophomores Marlee Hatcher (Pontotoc) and Jabria Pounds (Nettleton) led the Lady Indians (1-0) with 20 points each. Fellow sophomore Asia Partlow (Tupelo) chipped in 16 points in the 80-69 victory over Wallace State Community College-Selma (0-1) on Tuesday.

Pounds connected on back-to-back threes to start the contest and set the pace for a high-scoring first quarter. Partlow knocked down a pair of free throws and finished with a pair of buckets in the paint to give ICC a 25-24 lead when the dust finally settled on the first quarter.

Pounds and Partlow combined for 10 points in the second quarter to give the Lady Indians a 41-39 halftime lead.

Hatcher scored 16 of her game-high 20 points in the second half, including connecting on 4 of 5 three-point attempts in the fourth quarter. Hatcher and Pounds combined to knocked down eight three pointers, four each, on the night.

Jiamond Mines led the Lady Patriots with 15 points, Kierra Davis had 12, and Jalisa Torrance added 11 in the loss.

Taking Care of Business

ICC hit 12 of 18 from the free throw line and 10 of the 11 ICC players that saw action contributed to the Lady Indians' scoring output.

Change of Plans

A transformer blew on the Wallace-Selma campus causing the gym to lose power 15 minutes before ICC arrived on campus. The game was moved to Concordia College also located in Selma.

Road Warriors

Six of the Lady Indians' first seven games are on the road. ICC will travel to Lurleen B. Wallace Community College, located in Andalusia, Alabama, for a 5:30 tip on Thursday.

ICC's lone home game this month will be Monday, November 14 against national power Shelton State Community College.
