Lady Indians open division play with win over Holmes

GOODMAN, MS – Zaida Cox (Ripley) came off the bench to match her career-best 11 points and Jabria Pounds (Nettleton) recorded her fourth double-double of the season to help the Lady Indians open division play with a 73-61 road win over Holmes Community College on Monday.

Pounds scored a career-high 22 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to tie her career-high.

Tied 17-17 after the first quarter, the Lady Indians doubled up the Lady Bulldogs, 26-13, in the second quarter to take a 43-30 lead into the locker room at the break. The Lady Indians held off a small second-half rally from the Lady Bulldogs to pick up the 73-61 victory.

Marlee Hatcher (Pontotoc) scored 17 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Constance Dunn (Fulton) scored 10 points and had 10 rebounds while Aaliyahha Thornton had nine points and a career-best eight assists in the victory.

Kamelia Lacy led Holmes with 20 points in the loss.  

Developing Depth

The Lady Indians continue to look for scoring threats off the bench. Lauren Fitch (Decatur, AL) and Grace Elliott (New Hope) each scored two points to help total 15 bench points.

Pounds of Consistency

Pounds recorded her fourth double-double in the last five games. She has seven double-doubles in her career at ICC. She collected 14 rebounds in a 68-60 road loss at Northwest Mississippi Community College.

Coming Home

For only the second time this season, ICC will play a home game when they take on Wallace-Selma (AL) on Wednesday. The Lady Indians knocked off the Lady Patriots, 80-69, in their season opener on November 1. The Lady Indians will also host nationally-ranked Motlow State (TN) on Saturday to close out the 2016 half of the season.
