Lady Indians earn No. 2 seed in NJCAA Region 23 Tournament
The Itawamba Community College women’s basketball team secured the No. 2 seed in the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament with an 84-77 victory over Holmes Community College on Monday.
FULTON, Miss. – The Itawamba Community College women's basketball team secured the No. 2 seed in the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament with an 84-77 victory over Holmes Community College on Monday.
The Lady Indians wrapped up the regular season with an impressive 22-5 overall record and a 12-2 mark in Mississippi Association of Community Colleges (MACCC) play, earning a first-round bye in the tournament.
Jestiny Dixon (Foley, Ala.) leads ICC with 13.4 points per game. She is joined by Tootie Lockett (Starkville) and D'Naylah Williams (Kosciusko), who also average double-digit scoring. Lockett contributes 13.2 points per game, while Williams adds 10.6 per game.
ICC will face the winner of the first-round matchup between No. 7 seed Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and No. 10 seed Holmes Community College, who play on Thursday, March 6. The game will start at 5 p.m. and admission will be free.
Pearl River Community College will host the tournament's semifinal round on Friday, March 14, with the championship game set for Saturday, March 15.
The Region 23 Tournament champion will earn an automatic berth in the NJCAA Division I Women's Basketball National Tournament, scheduled for March 25 – April 1 at the Ford Wyoming Center in Casper, Wyoming.
