Indians earn highest-ever ranking in final ITA poll

After posting a 9-3 record while winning the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) and National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 23 titles and advancing to the NJCAA National Tennis Tournament in Plano, Texas, the Indians finished the season with their highest-ever final ranking at No. 13 in the nation.

The ICC men’s tennis team entered this week with a new-found focus and a chip on their shoulder after a bold prediction of a rival program’s “clean sweep” to the MACJC and NJCAA championships.

Mother Nature almost prevented the No. 19 Itawamba Community College Indians and Jones County Junior College from playing on Friday, but the rain held off long enough for the Indians to pick up their ninth straight win.

The Itawamba Community College Indians have been on a tear since entering MACJC play and have earn a No. 19 ranking by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). The Indians (3-2) carried their new ranking on the road Tuesday and picked up another 9-0 win, this time over No. 25 East Central Community College.
